Last weekend went and checked out this cool street art exhibition in the city (Next to the Duxton hotel). They have pieces of art and project them through projectors onto the sides of buildings. Cool idea.

Went to the Perth Observatory last night. Got to see some real cool (but tiny) stuff. Saw Saturn with its rings and a comet thats cruisin past Earth. On the drive out there i snapped these two shots off.

The Astronomers also had these super cool green laser pointers that they'd point into the stars two show ppl what we were all looking at. Then a chopper came past so they had to stop.

Just been watchin the pipe comp all morning on the world wide web. Got to see from the quarters through to the final!

I have never really watched any online streams of comps before, tell you what though i am now addicted! I was on the edge of my seat, yelling, biting my headphone cable in nervousness. I highly recommend watching the next comp, i def will be.

And then to top it off my bodyboarding idol, Mr Ryan Hardy, won the final! And only by a meagr 0.6 of a point.

Leederville Footbridge

I was taking photos from the Leedy footbridge of the city. I went two nights in a row coz i wasnt satisfied with the first outcome. (Then i wasnt satisfied with the second and now desire a finished shot of the two combined!) Anyway... on the 2nd night a Mayalasian middle aged man was also shooting, we got talking and he ended up givin me his business card and told me that if i want to come to Mayalasia i can stay with him and he'll take me to a rainforest to take snaps of the rainforest. I leave, i check his business card and he's head honcho of Gynocoligy in all of Mayalasia.

Im goin to start adding a Copyright symbol to any pics that i put up here. When i see other ppls photos with a "C" symbol layered on top i think its a bit poncy to be honest, but then on the other hand if someone else tried to claim a photo thats not their's and the rightful owner of that photo had no way of stopping them, that would suck.

I guess i am adding it so that if by the slimest of slim chances i got into that situation i can say 'hey thats actually mine bucko'. And also with the internet, information (eg pics, word docs etc) can be whizzed around the world in a matter of seconds, and a lot of the time that i see an epic shot i have no idea who took it due to the fact its been ripped from somewhere.

So i guess its a claim to identity and a kind of claim of protection.

I dont really like the city that much. When i am there i find it really interesting, just watching all these people who have nothing in common except they work in the same vicinity goin about their daily lives.

I was chillin in my room the other day when i looked outside and low n behold - there was a rad sunset goin down. So i grabbed my rig and took photos of it, then my attention turned to our tree in the front yard and then later on on to the moon.

With the shot of the tree i was taking exposure readings for the sunset then using flash to bring out the tree with the sunset in the background. Im still learning about flash photography (By learning i mean experimenting because i dont have any formal training goin on), and that was the end result.

Shots were taken from the carpark. Sorr i dont have any underwater shots, water housings for camera cost roughly $2500! My friend has a canon point n shoot digi with a housing that produces pretty good underwater shots, however he has the underwater shots from isolators and he had to work yesterday, so no water pics from watermans.

Mon & Tue in Perth....had some of the best looking beach and ocean conditions. It was honestly perfect....except that it was literally flat as an ironing board (=No waves). However, the ocean also provides other means of fun. Snorkeling!. Snorkeled down at Isolators on Mon and up at Watermans yesterday, saw some amazing things. Huge schools of fish, stingrays, hyper purple starfish, abalone and a few caves to swim through.

Was in the city for work the other day, snuck my camera along for the trip. The girl having a smoke gave me the worst evils as i lined the shot up so i pretended i was photoing the bike.....

The real trippy pic of the bus stop is of a reflection of an office window, so its a cross over of the people at the bus stop and people sitting behind a desk in an office. Only one exposure though, not two photo's layed over each other.

After watching the Oz day fireworks we started the walk back to our car like the hordes of other people. It was pretty cool, at one point in a line across the road there were asians wrapped in the AUS flag and white australians in the middle then black people on the right (check middle photo). Australia truely has become a multi-cultural place.

There was also some grommies still drinkin and leavin there bottles on the ground as they walked. I hate people that liter.

The day for me consisted of a couple of tripleJ hottest 100 parties followed by a rest in the late arvo and then going and watching the fireworks display over the swan river. Pics are from the fireworks and on the walk back to the car.

This was our second day in Queenstown, we'd meet these cool Canadians and started hangin out as a group. We went into town in the evening to go find some food and beer, all we found though was a street entertainer who threw a playing card onto the roof of a two story building. He was good.
Along the way was this funny Jap couple taking photos of each other with a toy sheep on their heads!?

Here's a few more pics from my last NZ entry. After we were woken up we drove for about half an hour and found a cool little spot to pull over and continue sleeping. I woke up before the others so i grabbed my setup and went walking in the near by lands, i ended up finding these really pink/purple flowers lining a creek surrounded by mountains.

NZ 27th December

We slept in Wanaka on the edge of a lake surrounded by mountains....ah the serenity! Not for long though, at 5am this big bearded man starts bangin on the car sayin its illegal to camp here and the the cops were on their way with a $500 fine in their hands. We bolted and drove through the Coronet Range until we lost the cops and found a sweet sleeping spot.

I woke up again at about 7.30am and wondered of with my camera and found this cool stream running through a little valley with all these crazy purple/pink flowering plants every where. Then when we had all woken we completed the drive and come out to th other side to this amazing view of the Queenstown region and its towering mountain ranges in all directions.

NZ 26th December

We decided to leave Greymouth and head south along the west coast, then cut through another mountain range (Which included Mt Cook, the highest peak in NZ) through to Queenstown hopefully. We only made it to Wanaka though. It was cloudy and rained all day long until the other side of the mountains. This meant we couldnt see Mt Cook or the Fox glaciers. During the coastal part of the drive we scoured every part of the coast to find some waves, luck was not on our side though. The drive into Wanaka is absolutley awesome, i'd do it every day if i could. Na not really.

Xmas Day in NZ

I was the first to wake again, we'd slept at the beach on the Cobden side of Greymouth. I went outside and it was kinda Eire, it was overcast and lots of blue light everywhere. The waves were small but clean, i didnt want to go out on my own so i waited for the others to rise. As the morning progress the swell and tide combined to produce some good looking waves. When we came in there was a father n son at the carpark, with the kid tryin out his new dirt bike from santa. We then went to Blaketown in the arvo and surfed the right wedge. It was then followed by two minute noodles, beers and a rainbow between the dividers. Good xmas.

NZ 24th December

We hung around Greymouth for a few days due to the fun waves that were hangin around. I was the first to wake in the van and to my surprise the township was under attack from a huge mist ball pushing theough the Dividers(2 mountains that split Greymouth into two smaller towns - Blaketown & Cobden).

There's also heaps of surf spots further north so we decided to drive the coastal road for about 3 hours north looking for waves and looking at the scenic views. We stopped at this place called Punakaiki, it has these rock formations that look like stacked pancakes. How classic!

NZ 23rd December

We slept along the Arthurs Pass road which is this road that cuts through a massive mountain range from the west coast to the east coast (N vice versa!). We had landed in the east at Christchurch but knew a swell was hitting the west coast. So we drove as far as we could and then decided to crash there. The photo's are showing how hectic the roads were and how cool mountains are! Once we woke we headed straight for a little coastal town called Greymouth which was home to a wedging right hander and a longer fatter left hander.

New Zealand 22nd December

I havent posted in a while due to the fact that ive been in New Zealand on a surf trip since the 22nd of Dec. Ive been taking heaps of photo's but just havent had any internet access, so posts could be few and far between. When i do get to post i'll try to do as much as i can. This set of photo's is from the 22nd December 2008 - We had landed in Christchurch grabbed our van and headed for the west coast via Arthurs Pass. Here's a few shots from my first few hours in NZ.

A house in Herdsman Lakes has gone bonkers with xmas lights, they're trying to raise money for PMH so get down there and check it out. All the lights go off to tunes being played across a radio frequency so you can sit in your car and watch or go walk around and have little dance to it if you like! If you got little ones they froth over it so get em down there.

Sunday arvo (After i finished work) went down to OBH for a sneaky pint and a swim, then went to freo for a burger from flipside. It took almost 50min to get my burger! Good burger, but 50min C'mon....

I saw one guy get king hit in the face by the biggest Maori ive ever seen and then 5min later there was a car crash on westcoast hwy, hectic. Got a pic of the crash as i drove past but missed the punch.

Failure ...again

Tried to shoot the big moon the other night over perth city, i failed. The night before the moon rose at around 8ish with the lovely pink light that comes when the sun is setting in the west. The next night the moon didnt rise till 9.15! So ive gotten there at 7.45pm to get it at 8ish. 8ish comes and nothin, 15min goes past, nothin. Another 15min and another and another, still nothin! Eventually i found out from another guy waiting for the moon that it wasnt goin to rise till 9.15pm. What a rookie (Im talkin bout me). I did get some pics of the city tho with pinky/blue sky and the buildings reflecting a bit of oranges.

It was massive and had a lovely soft pink sky around it. Me being a rookie flunked it, by the time i got somewhere to photo it it was all over.

Dog Walk

Last night i had to take the dogs for a walk, however whilst walking this amazing sunset started to appear. I walked the dogs as quick as i could walk, then jumped into my car to and drove to the nearest high point. I ended up near the Boulevard shopping centre. By the time i got there the sun was already half past the horizon and by the time i got my camera out the sun was gone. It was about 5x better than the pics that i got :(

Boring Boring Wknd

The wknd just gone was pretty boring for my self. Worked Saturday - saw a bus load of friends going to the MGMT concert whilst driving around for work. Instant depression set in after that, luckily the few of us that didnt go banded together hunt out food and beer to take our minds off of the fact we were missing a top5 concert of the season.

Sunday worked again, then swam in a pool and watched a tv and ate a burger, then watched a movie.

Went into the city again at about 6ish, bad move. Cars everywhere, people everywhere, carparks nowhere.

Ended up parking in a wilson carpark. 2 Hours = $11 big ones!. Thats as much as a feast for kings at Shafto Taka's - Dont do it ppl ;/

My first two attempts of "street" shooting in the same day, too keen.

I then even went to the Osborne Park Fair to shoot Fireworks, same deal as city though so flagged it and came home. A very boring home.

It was prob about 8ish, i'd parked illegally in a loading zone and the city was streaming with the 9to5'ers.

Its the first time i've ever taken "Street" Photo's and people give you dirty looks like your a real creep. A friend saw me as she was on her way to work and out creeped me by taping me on the shoulder at a set of lights and told me of the her new office ways.

I kept on eye on my car coz its a $100 fine in the city anywhere, after about an hour a parking cop was half way through wright ting me out a ticket. Luckily i ran hard and talked hard and persuaded him to discontinue with his efforts.

The Black Swan of the Black Swan

After the sun rose i went round to Coode St Jetty for a laugh, when all of a sudden this crazy black swan come along and first tried to befriend a Pelican and then wanted to be my pet for the morning.

I was photoing the city and the black swan and she (assuming its a she[the swan]) would whistle at me, follow me, she even stalked me when i tried to leave. I was walking along the river bank back to my car and she followed me for about 30m, gliding across the swan river like a fast swan.

First went Reabold Hill for Sunset, then to the Lama Bar for a meal and a pint for $19 and whilst driving home a lightening storm appeared
